Krakow

Krakow is one of the most beautiful cities in Poland. Over 1000 years old city has a lot to offer . After visiting Krakow just once, you will never forget the impression made by the unique atmosphere of the old defensive walls and Wawel Hill located at the bend of Vistula River. The charming market square with the beautiful Saint Mary's Church and lots of greenery are also places that make a big impression. The first mention of this city comes from the end of the 10th century. Since year 1000 in Krakow, on the Wawel throne sat, among others: Władysław Łokietek, Kazimierz Wielki and Zygmunt I. In this city on the initiative of King Kazimierz III, the Krakow Academy was established, one of the oldest universities in the country. It was in Krakow that the bell "Zygmunt" was melted, Saint Mary's Church was built, in which Wit Stwosz placed his altar. Krakow was the capital of Poland until the beginning of the 17th century.
Krakow is a city of churches, there are over 120 of them built in different architectural styles. In addition to the Saint Mary's Church on the Main Square, other nearby buildings are fascinating as well: the Church of Corpus Christi, the Basilica of Saint Michael the Archangel and Saint Stanislaw Bishop, Cathedral of Saint Wenceslas and Saint Stanislaw. The city center is by far the most important and largest square in Europe, called the Main Market Square. It is in Krakow that you can admire the famous Cloth Hall, Saint Mary's Church, the town hall tower and about 40 medieval houses. The Sukiennice, which was the first shopping center of this city, deserves attention. The city is surrounded by remnants of defensive walls, among which the Barbican and the famous Florian Gate can be found.
Wawel towers over the old town. The castle initially had a wooden form, its stone walls began to be erected in the 11th century, and after the fire in the 15th century, the castle was completely rebuilt. Currently, you can admire its towers: Sandomierska, Senatorska, Złodziejska, Herbowa and Wazów, Sobieski's Tower and Vault of Leonardo.
In addition, Krakow offers its guests the only opportunity in Poland to learn about the history of urban infrastructure development, such as fire brigade, gas, electrification, communication or bridge construction. The Krakow Technology Route has 16 facilities located in the very center of the city and its close vicinity. Most of these facilities were erected at the turn of the 19th and 20th centurie and include such facilities as: railway station, Schindler's factory, Podgórska power plant, municipal gas plant, Podgórski and Piłsudskiego bridges, fire station, municipal theater power plant, Zieleniewskich Forge, Krakow power plant, tram depot , Vistula Boulevards and several others.
In Krakow, as in any larger city, urban parks are at the disposal of residents and visitors. Planty, Krakow's most famous, was created on the site of the defensive walls and fortifications surrounding the old city. In Krakow you will also find various parks: Park Lotników Polskich, Park Jordana, Park Bednarski, Park Decjusza and many more. In each of the parks there are playgrounds, bicycle paths and many attractions for visitors. Being in Krakow, you cannot forget about the largest Cracow meadow - Błonia, as well as about botanical and zoological garden.
For tourists seeking relaxation and entertainment, Krakow Water Park was created. There are many water attractions, including various hydromassage stations, a jacuzzi, a wild river or a sauna. There are also places for practicing water sports: basketball, volleyball and water polo, as well as a rainbow path for walking on water and slides. Krakow is rich in galleries and shopping centers, the most famous are the Galeria Krakowska, Galeria Kazimierz and Bonarka.
Krakow is a very attractive tourist city. Tours are organized all year round. There are plenty of cafes and souvenir shops here. Krakow's streets are narrow and built up with old tenement houses. Street names refer to historical times. There is also a cruise ship floating on Vistula river for tourists who value peace. You can also take a walk along the Vistula River and sit on a bench among lush greenery and admire the panorama of the city.
